The Beautiful Struggle: Revolutionary Hip Hop ATX

SXSW brings about a great atmosphere for networking and promoting for the international music community, but what about the community that it takes place in?
Many times, many artists come and play in the
historic districts of Austin without really getting to know what is
happening in those areas. Touted as the number one city to move to by
many acclaimed magazines- this city hasn't always been number one for many different groups to live in.
As we struggle with gentrification,
institutional racism, closing of schools at this time- we are finding
that we are more in solidarity with other Urban cities than ever
before. Hip Hop has been a refuge and a place of discussion about
those elements- but many hip hop artists have seem to forgotten that Hip Hop is the music of action. Our affinity for hip hop and change
brings these acts together to be revolutionary in their spaces.
On March 16, 2011 these acts from all over the world and Austin will
perform and exchange experiences and ideas on how to create change
through hip hop. Their performances and most importantly their
discussions will happen at the Orun Cultural Center at 1401 B Cedar
Ave. Austin TX 78702. The center has been a space for these
discussions and all types of socially conscious musicians. Spaces like
these are integral to our communities and necessary for us to grow- so
we are proud to also announce this as a benefit show as well.
Come join us as we begin of tradition of the meeting of the minds through the music as we create to influence positive change. We hope as a radical community in Austin to continue this tradition with SXSW!
